Happy Equinox!

In case you need reminding, humans have been celebrating days like today for a very, very long time. The image above is from near New Grange in Ireland, on a equinox day.

Teotihuacan - Hidden Chambers?

I last reported on this two years ago: 2012.antville.org

According to a doco I just saw on TV, it will be another two years before they have detected enough muons to have enough data to know the answer.

The largest particle detector in Mexico is being built inside a pyramid in the ancient settlement of Teotihuacan. The equipment will detect muons, tiny particles that are created when cosmic rays bombard the Earth's atmosphere.

Dr Arturo Menchaca and colleagues from Mexico's National Autonomous University hope that by tracking the muons through the pyramid, they can find cavities.

The experiment is costing half a million dollars. At the moment, it resembles a large, flat metal plate, connected to a box of wires with a monitor displaying a flickering yellow line.

This is the machine that tracks the muons, sub-atomic debris left over when cosmic rays smash into molecules in the Earth's atmosphere.

They travel at near the speed of light and pass through solid objects, leaving tiny traces. When a muon hits the receptor, the yellow line leaps up and down in spikes.

"The idea is to try to discover density variations in the pyramid," Dr Menchaca told BBC News Online.

"These cosmic rays are very penetrating radiation. Some of them go through this pyramid, and some of them are absorbed.

"The amount which is absorbed depends on the material which it finds. If we find more muons than we expect, then there is less matter in that part of the pyramid".

Less matter could indicate the cavity of a burial chamber.

The clue to why the pyramids exist is that some muons make it through the pyramid, some don't. Outside without protection, they'll all hit you. In a cosmic ray storm you would be safer under the pyramid.

More exploration and digging required

The Sahara has recently revealed ultra-ancient finds starting near the "old" shores of Lake Chad and extending hundreds of miles East, Northeast toward Egypt and the Nile. This includes the various Playa (old dried lakes) such as Nabta Playa also. Buried in the sands of Time were great slabs for foundations of long gone complexes. These slabs have ranged from 100(English tons) to slightly less. (Perfectly smooth sculptures weighing almost two tons were found in the Nabta Playa area.) This sophisticated engineering prowess, reminiscent of the monoliths at Balbeck in Lebanon, are so perfectly aligned, that today’s scientist usually ignore reporting such a paradox. These sites have recently been dated from as old as 30,000 b.c. to about 9,000 b.c.

Today, under the Mediterranean, numerous remains of old cities are being excavated that are dating out to 15,000 + years before Christ. More research must expose the interface with this new data, since ultra-sophisticated finds are being exposed off the coast of Malta, and also in that nation’s interior, where underground caverns, mounted by curious buildings such as Mnajdra, are now being explored. Some think that, if this Earth disaster did happen long ago, that the legends of beings living underground could have started with humans escaping the flooding waters by plunging into the caves (such as the Hypogeum where 7000 primeval souls were entombed) as a temporary solution to flood waters that, unfortunately, never ebbed. It is known that some of these caverns which plunge deeply under the Med — have been rumored to exit near the site of old Carthage and in parts of Italy.

The giant slabs, as large as freight cars, in the Sahara, Lebanon, Egypt and other places, show the finest craftsmanship, not unlike the smaller lithic works of Puma Punku at Tithanaco near Lake Titicaca in Bolivia. The secrets of this world are literally untouched by any real investigation.

Ultra-sound for Rosslyn Chapel

Not too sure about this, as the story comes from the "Knights Templar" rather than the chapel itself...

The Knights Templar will use ultra-sound and thermal imaging equipment in a bid to find the reputed relics in the vaults.

John Ritchie, grand herald and spokesman for the Knights Templar, said: "The machine we are using is the most sophisticated anywhere and is capable of taking readings from the ground up to a mile deep without disturbing any of the land.

"We know many of the knights are buried in the grounds and there are many references to buried vaults, which we hope this project will finally uncover."

Solar system understanding

To understand what is happenning on our planet now in the past, and in the future one has to understand how the our solar system works within our Galaxie and the same for other solar systems, and muti systems ( with more than one active sun)in our Galaxie and other Galaxies.

Each system will travel within its own galaxie each system has its own electric sourse a sun (star) or (stars). When one system gets to near a nabouring sytsem the electrice charge of the higher charge system pumps up the lower charge system. This causes the sun or suns to become extra active which in turns heats up the planets, there is also chance that the higher charge system may require a planet or two from the lower charge system. The increase in charge to the lower charge system will cause the planets in that system to heat up, this in turn will increase vocano activity and earth quakes as we have already seen on this Earth in the past and now. Each diffrent system that our system gets near or passes will be diffrent to the last pass so the effects on the Earth will be diffrent. This is what our history books do not tell us or past tablets that have recorded these diffrent Earth cat.

Mystery of 'chirping' pyramid decoded

That it chirps is fact. That the Mayans engineered the pyramid so that it made a sound is fact. But did they get the sound they tried for? Regardless, it is pretty advanced!

A theory that the ancient Mayans built their pyramids to act as giant resonators to produce strange and evocative echoes has been supported by a team of Belgian scientists.

Nico Declercq of Ghent University and his colleagues have shown how sound waves ricocheting around the tiered steps of the El Castillo pyramid, at the Mayan ruin of Chichén Itzá near Cancún in Mexico, create sounds that mimic the chirp of a bird and the patter of raindrops.

Jurassic Park, another chance?

We've had news like this before, but who knows, this could be the one that tells us a lot about dinosaurs, and perhaps recreates one...

A 70-million-year-old Tyrannosaurus rex fossil dug out of a hunk of sandstone has yielded soft tissue, including blood vessels and perhaps even whole cells... Paleontologists forced to break the creature's massive thighbone to get it on a helicopter found not a solid piece of fossilized bone, but instead something looking a bit less like a rock.

When they got it into a lab and chemically removed the hard minerals, they found what looked like blood vessels, bone cells and perhaps even blood cells.

"They are transparent ...the vessels were flexible and in some cases their contents could be squeezed out." [said Mary Higby Schweitzer]

"The microstructures that look like cells are preserved in every way...".

"Preservation of this extent, where you still have this flexibility and transparency, has never been seen in a dinosaur before." Feathers, hair and fossilized egg contents yes, but not truly soft tissue. "If we can isolate certain proteins, then perhaps we can address the issue of the physiology of the dinosaur."

Of course, the big question is whether it will be possible to see dinosaur DNA. "We don't know yet. We are doing a lot in the lab now that looks promising,"

Tsunami uncovers ruins in India

For a few minutes on Dec. 26, after the water had receded far from the shore and before it came raging back as a tsunami, the fishermen stood along the beach and stared at the reality of generations of legends.

Or so they say. Spread across nearly a mile, the site was encrusted with barnacles and covered in mud. But the fishermen insist they saw the remains of ancient temples and hundreds of refrigerator-size blocks, all briefly exposed before the sea swallowed them up again.

"You could see the destroyed walls covered in coral, and the broken-down temple in the middle," said Durai, a fisherman who, like many south Indians, uses only one name. "My grandfathers said there was a port here once and a temple, but suddenly we could see it was real."

Whatever they saw is back under water and out of sight. But a few hundred yards away, something else came to the surface. In this village on the east coast, south of Madras, the tsunami scrubbed away six feet of sand from a section of beach, uncovering a cluster of boulders carved with animals, gods and servant girls.

...Archaeologists say excavations were already under way before the tsunami struck, and that divers made some promising finds.

Hopefully this news will inpsire more undersea archaeological studies based on "legend".

More Nazca-type lines found in Peru

Archaeologists have discovered a group of giant figures scraped into the hills of Peru's southern coastal desert that are believed to predate the country's famed Nazca lines.

About 50 figures were etched into the earth over an area roughly 90 square miles near the city of Palpa, 220 miles southeast of Lima, El Comercio newspaper reported.

The drawings which include human figures as well as animals such as birds, monkeys, and felines are believed to be created by members of the Paracas culture sometime between 600 and 100 B.C., Johny Islas, the director of the Andean Institute of Archaeological Studies, told the newspaper.

No pics to be found unfortunately, but this is from the same area (in German, with pic): Palpa Glyth

Crystal skull a fake?

It is pretty famous, and holds a special place in my heart, for it is on the cover of the first "mysteries" book I ever read, when I was a teenager.

The "evidence" revolves around whether or not ancients had the tools to make it or not. Anyone who believes that "advanced civilizations" existed long ago will ignore this news.

I, however, believe it is a fake...

Whatever legends are attached to the crystal skull of the British Museum in London, there is one indisputable fact. No other single object in the museum's extensive collection has acquired such a cult following from New Age devotees.

Now, however, science can finally set the record straight and in doing so shatter one of the most enduring myths of an object steeped in historical fantasy. The crystal skull is a fake.

A detailed analysis of the crystal skull's surface has revealed that it was cut and polished with the sort of rotating wheel common in the jewellery houses of 19th Century Europe but absent in pre-Columbian America.

Historians and scientists believe that the crystal skull was cut from a piece of Brazilian rock crystal by a lapidary in Europe, possibly Germany, and then sold to collectors as a genuine relic from the ancient Aztec civilisation of Mexico.

... The scientists took impressions of the skull with the same flexible resin used by dentists to take precise impressions of teeth. This revealed the minute rotary scratch marks around the eye sockets, teeth and cranium and was clear evidence that the sculpture had been cut and polished with a wheeled instrument - and the Aztecs did not have the wheel.

Happy Summer/Winter Solstice

I like to keep in mind that ancient cultures, advanced or not, placed a lot of importance on the solstices. The ancient Mayans have selected (in my opinion) the winter solstice for their official end date in 2012. Above is a beautiful ancient chamber at Newgrange in Ireland, where the winter solstice sunrise illuminates the passage and chamber. Follow the link below for more info and pics.

Chinese Pyramids: real but not as mysterious

Finally someone new has gone to China to check out the pyramids, and then written a report:

If the pyramid existed, it would surely show up on the freely available satellite photos from Space Imaging.

I proceeded to spend several days downloading dozens of detailed satellite images and overlaying them upon a map of the region. Using satellite photos taken of the pyramids at Giza for size comparison, I sought pyramidal forms from the target region in China. What I found was quite startling. Spread across the landscape were scores of pyramids of varying size. One in particular seemed to closely match the size of the Egyptian pyramids, at least in its perimeter.

There was just one problem. These pyramids were in the wrong place. The pyramids I had located lay several miles northwest of Xi'an near the city of Xianyang. Furthermore, none of them appeared in the mountainous territory south of Xi'an. They all lay out in the open upon seemingly flat ground. I believed I had located the pyramid from the famous photo, but its location did not remotely match the description given by Sheehan.

....Enamored by the mystery, I determined to visit China myself and attempt to reconcile some of these conflicting stories.

....As the plane descended low through the clouds I searched the smooth green landscape below and to my utter surprise I could make out pyramids already!

....Our first stop was the largest pyramid I had identified from the satellite photos and is known locally as Maoling Mausoleum. Its shape is now somewhat obscured by a covering of young trees, yet the structure still makes for an impressive sight. Photo in hand, I quickly identified the burial mound before me as the same one depicted in the black and white photo from 1947.

Making the steep climb to the summit, I surveyed my surroundings. Both near and far were smaller burial mounds of differing shapes and configurations. The view was impressive, but I was struck most of all by the fact that I had made it. I had finally arrived at this place I had spent over a year researching and examining in satellite photos. After all the talk of forbidden zones and inaccessible valleys, here it lay out in the open for anyone to admire.

Chinese were brewing booze in 7000 BC

It isn't hard to explain... remnants of a former advanced civilization, spread throughout the world after a cataclysm, still remembered the basic techniques for making alcoholic drinks.

Chemical tests on ancient fragments of broken pottery show that Chinese villagers were brewing alcoholic drinks as far back as 7000 BC. That beats the previous record for the oldest evidence of brewing, found in Iran and dated at about 5400 BC.

Why brewing developed nearly simultaneously in east Asia and the middle east is something “we haven't resolved yet", McGovern told New Scientist. "The expanse of central Asia in between would seem to preclude any direct connection," he says, but more research may show links - or a common origin.td>

Pyramid of the Moon: Headless corpses discovered

A tomb filled with decapitated bodies suggests Mexico's 2000 year-old "Pyramid of the Moon" may have been the site of horrifically gory sacrifices, archaeologists said today.

The tomb at Teotihuacan... also held the bound carcasses of eagles, dogs and other animals

Of the 12 human bodies found, 10 were decapitated and then tossed, rather than arranged, on one side of the burial site. The two other bodies were richly ornamented with beads and a necklace made of imitation human jaws

As usual, the archaeologists are convinced that "it is most likely that the ceremony created a horrible scene of bloodshed"

New robot for Giza pyramid in 2005

It's an official announcement, so I would expect it to happen as planned:

The robot experiment inside Cheops Pyramid in Giza will be repeated next year but this time by a different institution, said Chairman of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Zahi Hawas.

The University of Singapore is currently designing a robot to reach beyond the door which blocked the route of the robot used by the US National Geographic in September 2003, said Hawas in statements on Saturday.

The new experiment will be conducted in October 2005, added the SCA head.

I can't see how they will get past the second door without breaking something. If they do start to break things, that's great news, for it will speed up discovery!

Clues to mound builders may be unearthed soon

Evidence of who built ancient effigy mounds in southeastern Wisconsin could be unveiled soon.

This summer's discovery of "a substantial campsite" just a stone's throw from the park's animal-shaped and conical effigy mounds offers a rare opportunity to dig into the lives of builders of these ancient earthworks, said John Richards, an associate scientist in UW-Milwaukee's Anthropology Department.

Atlantis discovered (yet again...)

Of course, as is always the case, the "evidence" is not provided in the news items. You can guarantee that in a few months the images will be not terribly convincing...

American researchers claim to have found convincing evidence that locates the site of the lost kingdom of Atlantis off the coast of Cyprus. The team spent six days scanning the Mediterranean sea bed between Cyprus and Syria using sonar technology.

They believe they found evidence of massive, manmade structures beneath the ocean floor, including two straight, 2-km (1.25 mile) long walls on a hill.

Team leader Robert Sarmast ...intends to use the sonar data to make a three-dimensional computer image of the site, 1.5km below sea level, before returning for further research."

"Hobbit" species found on Dragon Island

Humans once came in many flavours, and further evidence has been found on Flores Island. This is the same island where pygmy elephants recently lived, and Komodo dragons still do.

Perhaps it was a zoo of some sort?

The remains of a tiny and hitherto unknown species of human that lived as recently as 13,000 years ago have been discovered... The skull and bones of one adult female, and fragments from up to six other specimens, were found in the Liang Bua limestone caves on Flores Island, which lies at the eastern tip of Java.

The female skeleton, known as LB1 - or by the nickname "Ebu" - has been assigned to a new species within the genus Homo - Homo floresiensis. Examination of the remains shows members of the species stood just 1 metre tall and had a brain no bigger than a grapefruit.

A handful of stone tools from the same period were also found in the caves, along with the bones and teeth of several dwarf stegodons, an ancestor of the modern elephant. Other animal remains, including rats, bats and fish, show signs that they were cooked around the time H. floresiensis inhabited in the caves.

...What caused the demise of H. floresiensis is unknown. It is possible that they were out-competed for food and other resources by H. sapiens or that they were wiped out by a volcanic eruption about 12,000 years ago.

Or perhaps the global cataclysm of approx 10,000 BC was the thing that wiped them out? Dr Tim Flannery, in an interview with Australia's ABC says:

TIM FLANNERY: I'm rather sceptical about the volcanic eruption causing the extinctions as well, and wonder what it could have been.

Mayan Atlantis?

A team of international archaeologists have set sail from Mexico to seek a sunken city that has been dubbed the "Mayan Atlantis", press reports said on Monday.

Quoted by the Mexican newspaper Milenio, team leader Paulina Zelintzky, a Russian archaeologist, said sonar equipment had given indications there could be ancient structures on the ocean floor between Mexico's Yucatan peninsula and Cuba.

According to Milenio, resonances showed geometric images similar to pyramids and round structures. The archaeologists will search the area using a mini-submarine known as "Deep Worker".

Signs there could be Mayan remains on the seabed first surfaced in 2000 when the area next to Cuba's westernmost tip was being explored for petroleum.

Before beginning their project, the archaeologists had to raise $2-million (about R13-million). They set sail from the port of Progreso in eastern Mexico on the Yucatan peninsula. -
