So if THAT happens, I suggest being as far away from nuclear reactors as possible, for they will not be able to withstand a cataclysm, and surviving the aftermath will be hard enough without dealing with your own local Chernobyl as well. Scientists have discovered that its strength has dropped precipitously over the past two centuries and could disappear over the next 1,000 years. The effects could be catastrophic. Powerful radiation bursts, which normally never touch the atmosphere, would heat up its upper layers, triggering climatic disruption. Navigation and communication satellites, Earth's eyes and ears, would be destroyed and migrating animals left unable to navigate. 'Earth's magnetic field has disappeared many times before - as a prelude to our magnetic poles flipping over, when north becomes south and vice versa,' said Dr Alan Thomson of the British Geological Survey in Edinburgh. Pole Reversalshappen every 250,000 years or so, and as there has not been one for almost a million years, we are due one soon.' For more than 100 years, scientists have noted the strength of Earth's magnetic field has been declining, but have disagreed about interpretations. Some said its drop was a precursor to reversal, others argued it merely indicated some temporary variation in field strength has been occurring. But now Gauthier Hulot of the Paris Geophysical Institute has discovered Earth's magnetic field seems to be disappearing most alarmingly near the poles, a clear sign that a flip may soon take place. Using satellite measurements of field variations over the past 20 years, Hulot plotted the currents of molten iron that generate Earth's magnetism deep underground and spotted huge whorls near the poles. Hulot believes these vortices rotate in a direction that reinforces a reverse magnetic field, and as they grow and proliferate these eddies will weaken the dominant field: the first steps toward a new polarity, he says. And as Scientific American reports this week, this interpretation has now been backed up by computer simulation studies. How long a reversal might last is a matter of scientific controversy, however. Records of past events, embedded in iron minerals in ancient lava beds, show some can last for thousands of years - during which time the planet will have been exposed to batterings from solar radiation. On the other hand, other researchers say some flips may have lasted only a few weeks. Exactly what will happen when Earth's magnetic field disappears prior to its re-emergence in a reversed orientation is also difficult to assess. Compasses would point to the wrong pole - a minor inconvenience. More importantly, low-orbiting satellites would be exposed to electromagnetic batterings, wrecking them. In addition, many species of migrating animals and birds - from swallows to wildebeests - rely on innate abilities to track Earth's magnetic field. To me it is quite clear. The number of beasts that died in North America (millions) could not have been caused by humans, the ratio of kills per probably newly arrived human is too great. And climate change happens all the time... In my opinion a global cataclysm fits the bill - large creatures are more vulnerable when things topple over. Little creatures can hide in nooks and crannies. If scientists focussed on the size factor, and why it made a difference, they might one day arrive at the cataclysm theory as well.

For all of you "Pre-Tribulationists" out there who think Rapture happens prior to this accord, you may be right... but don't lose hope if you see this accord come to pass and you are still here... it does not mean you have been "left behind", especially if you have not heard reports of people missing around the globe. It simply means the Antichrist has not yet been indwelt by Satan and formally "revealed" himself to be God, and that we will have a short time longer as we live through the beginning of sorrows, and the opening of the 7 seals and 7 Trumpet Judgments. Sounds to me like the ideal number of participants for a survival colony here on Earth. Either 160 people with 100% survival rate, or 320 people with a 60% survival rate, or.... I think we'll be lucky if any number of people prepare for 2012.
link me monkraven, October 3, 2004 at 1:03:00 PM AEST 2012 and Bible Code agrees Recent investigations into the actual truth behind the biblical Hebrew code discovered hidden in the text of the ancient scrolled Torah has been very accurate for events in the last century and even moreso in the last 4 years or so. The interesting point to make here is that the code does have a grid that engages the topic of the year 2012 as the year that all life on earth expires because of rock from space or asteroid. It pinpoints a date in the winter of the north continent in 2012 when all life is extinguished and the earth literally breaks into pieces. There are no events coded for any dates after that date which means that the cooincidence that 2012 is in the ancients texts and sent to us from whoever encoded the scriptures and the Mayan theories are pretty fairly obvious even to skeptics. Surprisingly NASA is more recently working on a bit of a conundrum surrounding a visitor heading toward our planet and expected to arrive on a collision course some time between the fall of 2011 and the spring of 2013. Can you give me the address? link me miles, September 3, 2004 at 5:01:00 AM AEST My 2012 demise Before I tell my story let me say that I knew nothing about the possible things that could happen in 2012 or the Myan Calendar until this last month (August ’04). About a year ago I was playing around on the Internet and I stumbled across this site that could supposedly tell you when you were going to die, so for fun I thought I’d play along. The site asked specific medical and health (like, do you smoke?, what’s your general health? What’s your mental attitude? Do you suffer from depression?, etc). I am a healthy optimistic non-smoking male and after I answered all the questions the site shot back to me that I would die somewhere between September and December of 2012 (8 years!!!). I didn’t like that answer so I re-answered the same questions several times only I gave false answers to the questions about my health and I got back varying times of my death all beyond 2012 (2020 and up). Then I answered the questions again (several times) but answering the questions truthfully and each time I was told I would die in 2012. None of this bothered my however as I did not believe it. When I would allow myself to entertain the thought that I’d die in 2012 I envisioned that I would come down with cancer or something and die that way. Then last month I was watching this program on the History Channel and it talked about how in 2012 the earth was going to go through horrific changes due to severe weather and quakes and the world we know will go through profound changes. I remembered that a year ago that Internet site told me that I would die in 2012. Now I’m interested in this 2012 business, the Mayan Calendar, etc and that’s how I ended up at this site. Now I’m beginning to wonder is there something to all this and if that site (that told me I would die in 2012) was correct would I not die from illness but due to the changing of the earth? If the Mississippi river becomes an inland sea and splits the nation in two (as the History Channel predicted) or California splits off from the rest of the nation (also predicted on the History Channel) will I be killed in all the earth’s upheavals? This is frightening and exciting at the same time, but am I making too much of some silly Internet prediction? Should I be concerned? Does any of this really mean anything? Can anyone shed any light?
