Gatenbrink door opens Sept 16 (or earlier?)

Took them long enough - too many years of wondering what is still hidden within the Great Pyramid

Since when have these characters opened a tomb etc for the first time, live in front of the world. If they have a robot that can peek under the door, they will have given it a test run. They already know what is behind the door. For all we know, they have opened the door, and swapped what was there with something shiny to please the tv viewers.

The live two-hour documentary will air in 141 countries. In the United States, FOX will present National Geographic Channel Presents Pyramids Live: Secret Chambers Revealed, Monday, September 16, 8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape delay

Vinland Map - real or fake?

Vinland Map

Ever since it surfaced in 1957, the Vinland Map has been controversial. Id authentic, it proves that Vikings found North America before Christopher Columbus. Others argue that it is instead the work of a 20th-century counterfeiter.

Now the results of two new studies are adding further fuel to the debate. A report published in the journal Analytical Chemistry concludes that the map's ink has modern roots; researchers writing in the August issue of the journal Radiocarbon, on the other hand, say that the parchment dates back to 1434.

Mayans drank chocolate first!

New analytical techniques have found cocoa residues in 2600 year-old ceramic vessels from the town of Colha in what is now northern Belize. The previous earliest evidence for chocolate consumption dates from around AD 400.

Archaeological Cover-ups

The scientific establishment tends to reject, suppress or ignore evidence that conflicts with accepted theories, while denigrating or persecuting the messenger.

This article discusses what many of us already suspect - that unmistakable proof of ancient civilizations is unfairly negated. Discussed are the Stones of Ica, Age of the Sphinx, Forbidden Archeology, Darwinism, ancient New Zealand & geological dating.

Mayan Caves...

...good places to hide from cosmic rays!

Divers Discover Maya Relics in Caves That Became Rivers

"We have found hearths and human remains dating to a period when the caves were dry, an estimated 8,000 to 9,000 years ago," Mr. Meacham said. "We have also documented deposits of ceramics and human bones from the Maya period."
The ancient Maya may have dug caves with spiritual abandon
As he's probed the ancient Maya's sacred landscape, he's come to realize that this group's belief system invested immense supernatural power in caves and the mountains that surround them. ....some of the largest Maya outposts of the Classic period, which lasted from A.D. 200 to A.D. 900, were strategically oriented on and around natural and humanmade caves... Artificial caves were constructed...thousands of these artificial caves that have yet to be discovered

Mesoamerica's jade source found

Well, this is a bit of a blow for those like myself who believe in contact between ancient cultures....

For half a century, scholars have searched in vain for the source of the jade that the early civilizations of the Americas prized above all else and fashioned into precious objects of worship, trade and adornment.

The searchers found some clues to where the Olmecs and Mayas might have obtained their jadeite, as the precious rock is known. But no lost mines came to light.

Now, scientists exploring the wilds of Guatemala say they have found the mother lode — a mountainous region roughly the size of Rhode Island strewn with huge jade boulders, other rocky treasures and signs of ancient mining. It was discovered after a hurricane tore through the landscape and exposed the veins of jade, some of which turned up in stores, arousing the curiosity of scientists.

Previously non-orthodox researchers suggested that it must have come from overseas, perhaps Burma.

Oronteus Finaeus Map = Australia?

Oronteus Finaeus Map After decades of debate over whether this map is of an ice-free Antarctica or not, a new theory has arrived from an Italian researcher. This article by Diego Cuoghi shows at the bottom of the second page that the word Java on the map actually refers to Indonesia, and therefore the focus of the map is Australia and not Antarctica.

[ the article is in Italian, but he hopes to have an English translation done soon - in the meantime, use the tools at Searchenginez to translate entire web pages ]

My input: The Tropic of Capricorn grazes the top of "Antarctica" which would make Antarctica much, much larger than it really is. The Tropic does however pass through northern Australia, which is a much closer fit.

And: The centre of the map, the South Pole, could be a confusion. The Aboriginal people of Australia have their most sacred place right in the center - Uluru (previously known as Ayers Rock)

Gulf of Cambay: Artifacts or Geofacts?

It must be remembered, that it can be quite easy and is quite common for nongeologists to be confused by natural rock formations. When confronted with natural phenomenon they are unfamiliar with, even the best of scientists can be mislead.
Visit Graham Hancock's gallery of images from the Gulf of Cambay, and then read this well written article, so that you can make up your own mind...

Mayan solar observations confirmed

Honduran scientists have replicated observations of the sun's movements that the ancient Mayas made centuries ago from the ceremonial plaza at Copan, the ruins of an ancient city in western Honduras.

The discoveries, especially the notations made Tuesday, reaffirm once again that the Mayas, whose civilization reached its peak between 250 and 900 A.D., were great astronomers.

Biggest encyclopedia not from Microsoft!

The world's largest nonfiction work and its earliest encyclopedia is going to be given a new lease of life when it gets reprinted for the first time in 600 years.

The Yongle encyclopedia (Yongle Dadian) -- made up of 22,877 volumes in 11,095 books -- is being republished by the Beijing Library Press, China's state-run Xinhua news agency said on Thursday.

Well, only 400 books remain, and they're only making photocopies, and it isn't a re-print, because it only existed in manuscript form, and it isn't in English, and most of the Chinese characters aren't used any more...but it probably mentions lots of dragons!

2,200 mummies discovered near Lima

Mummy So far...more are thought to remain buried. 50,000 relics accompany them, but apart from the incredible numbers, this news isn't very exciting. However, it should (hopefully) remind a few folk that the Americas have pyramids and mummies just like Egypt. And comes with a nice pic too.

40,000 years ago in Russia

This article has lots to say about how:

anatomically modern humans who had migrated out of Africa 40,000 to 50,000 years ago were adapting to the frigid temperatures of the central east European Plain
- with no mention (of course) that it might not have been so cold if Moscow was 30 degrees closer to the equator, before the last pole shift

More on Indian underwater site

Off India
Explorers believe they have discovered remains of a mythical city off the coast of India. According to legend it was swallowed up by the sea about 2,000 years ago...

"The ruins include walls, steps and stone blocks. The structures have been severely damaged over the years but are clearly man-made. Everyone is very excited about the discovery."
